The Bow Valley Bobcats notched their first win of the season with a 28-6 win over the Springbank Phoenix on Oct. 6.

It was a major breakthrough for a young team that is deep into rebuilding mode with an eye on a promising future.

"We're playing how I expected us to play," says head coach Dustin Paul. "It's like everything is coming together now."

Paul says the Bobcats set the tone early, forcing turnovers on the first three possessions of the Phoenix.

"And we scored," says Paul. "We put points up. We got the shorter field and we took advantage of it, which is huge. It wasn't just kicking a field goal, it was coming back with a touchdown."

The defense shone and QB Jude Kupery navigated the offense to three touchdowns. The other major came from a punt return.

"I couldn't be happier with the way everybody played on both sides of the ball."

With the win, he says the Bobcats will be hosting a rematch against the Phoenix in a couple of weeks. Despite the score, the two teams are closely matched, making for an exciting conclusion to the season.

The date and time haven't been confirmed at this point by the Rocky View league.

The Bobcats continued to have food trucks on site for the game and sold team merchandise. Besides rebuilding the team, it's been a major goal to create a highly-charged atmosphere for the games, and it's been paying off with big crowds.
