Mothers Against Drunk Driving is all about being proactive instead of reactive.

This grassroots, kitchen table, volunteer driven organization is open to anyone who has been affected by this crime. During Christmas season, MADD is present in the communities with campaigns such as the Red Ribbon Campaign, which is supported by all first responders, partners and sponsors.  The red ribbon that can be seen on cars, handbags, and children’s back packs are very important reminders to make good choices when getting behind the wheel.

Volunteers from Cochrane can join the Calgary Chapter. Denise Dubyk, Calgary Chapter of MADD board member, says the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and concerned citizens who have never been affected can all join. There are more people coming together because they know anyone can be a victim of drinking and driving.

"This is a crime and 100% preventable. What we strive to do is educate people, bring awareness toward this tragedy, and fight to have it stopped."

In addition to the red ribbon campaign, there is an annual candlelight vigil in May every year, where any victims are invited to join, MADD motorcycle poker run, a car show in September and a golf tournament in June and throughout the year MADD will be invited into schools and do video presentations for students grade 6 and up about making wise choices.

So, if you drive though a check stop this season and see a MADD member handing out a red ribbon,  give them an extra thank you for all they do. To get more information about this organization, click here
