Australian wildfires have been raging and causing devastation to both humans and the animal populations alike. The wildfires have been wreaking havoc on Australia for months now, over a billion animals have been affected by the blazes with reports of species becoming extinct.

Australian born Cochranite and 91.5 CochraneNow staff member, Meg Kenny, is heading home to Adelaide, Australia and says that her friends and family are safe but there have been two fires in particular that hit close to home for her. " Kangaroo Island and Adelaide Hills, the latter has devastated the wine industry. The Koalas of Kangaroo Island, the population is 50,000 strong and is one of the only disease-free population and at the moment it is unclear how many have perished."

Kangaroo Island is well-known for its massive koala bear population and due to the recent fires they have lost over 150,000 hectares of habitat for the marsupials.

"There is a couple of places to donate to koalas in particular. There is a Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park and the Adelaide Koala and Wildlife Hospital. They are taking financial donations and you can also sponsor a patient"
