The Special Olympics Canada Winter Games are underway in Calgary and Cochrane athletes have already found themselves on the podium.
Cochrane’s Elouise Stewart with team Alberta won a gold medal in the 5 km women’s cross-country skiing freestyle event.
Fellow team member with Special Olympic Bow Valley Brock Jesse snagged silver in the men’s cross-country skiing freestyle event.
Shane Stewart is also bringing a silver medal home in the men’s 5 km classic cross-country skiing event.
Fellow Team Alberta Sarah McCarthy and Cochrane’s Kieran Pothier have finals in the 100m and 500m events.

Today’s (Feb 29) races also include the 7.5 km for Elouise, Shane and Brock. Brock also has a 2.5 km division race.
Cochranites are welcome to cheer on the home town heroes for free at the Confederation Park Golf Course in Calgary.
The games continue through to March 2.
