The Cochrane and Area Humane Society is reaching out to Cochranites to help with the specialized orthopedic surgeries of two dogs in their care.

Lisa Kedian, Communications Coordinator for the Humane Society tells the story of Bristol and Sara.

“Bristol was found with multiple injuries, and he was brought to us by a really concerned citizen. We don't know what the causes of injuries are but he did require surgery that ended up resulting in a new plate in his back leg with nine screws that were needed to stabilize his leg, which, of course, that is definitely not a very cheap surgery.”

“The other dog we have, her name is Sara, and she arrived at the shelter with her five puppies. Her five puppies have now all been adopted and she has finished her motherly duties. She actually required what's called a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy) surgery, which repaired her torn cranial cruciate ligament in her knee.”

“Sara just had her surgery on Monday and she is now recovering.”

The cost of the specialized orthopedic surgeries and follow-up treatments and recoveries will cost close to $6,000.

She says that there were other options for the two dogs, but not for the best results.

“There are things that you can consider, that would be easier. Like, for example, amputation for these two dogs. These repair surgeries will actually provide both of these dogs the quality of life that they deserve and the best opportunity for a second chance.”

“We will always do our best to fight for the animals to make sure they have the best chance at living a happy life. Situations don't always go, you know, the way we want them to go, but we are always looking out to do the best we can for these animals.”

The fundraising campaign for Bristol and Sara is being held on The Cochrane and Area Humane Society’s Facebook Page. At this time, they have raised over $1,500 of the required $6000.
