Canadian Pacific Railway has announced the 2016 Holiday Train schedule.

The lighted train will be making an appearance in Cochrane on Monday, December 12 at 2:45 pm between the Provincial building and Rexall, on Main Street.

Salem Woodrow, Public Affairs and Communication for CP Rail says the Holiday Train is North America's longest running, rolling, food bank fundraising program.

"The Holiday Train program has been travelling across Canada and the United States for 18 years now, raising money and food awareness for local food banks and hunger issues. Since 1999, the Holiday Train program has raised more than $12 million, and raised more than 3.9 million lbs of food for North American food banks."

Every pound of food and dollar raised at each stop stays to support the local community food bank.

"In some communities that money and food raised from the train stop is the main fundraiser for the next 12 months. So the Holiday Train program is an important community initiative and is very important to CP employees that live and work in the communities that we operate in."

Even though, the Cochrane stop is in the afternoon, Woodrow shares you won't be disappointed.

"We do try to reach as many locations as we can so that means that sometimes we have to change up the time of arrival. The lights are still visible, they are always on, and of course we are always putting on a show from our box car stage and folks will have a great show to see.

Dallas Smith and the Odds will be taking stage; the performance is free and all CP asks is bring a donation.

"We are encouraging folks to think about the healthy option because everyone deserves to eat healthy and nutritious food. These can be grain products, whole wheat, brown rice, whole wheat crackers, canned vegetables and fruit, even dried milk powder."
