Greg Boehlke has started his fifth term as reeve of Rocky View County (RVC) Council.

Boehlke says he appreciates the support of his peers. Although he speaks for the county, he points out he is only one voice at the table.

"All things said and done, you only have one vote, and you have to represent only what council tells you to represent," says Boehlke. "That's sometimes a little bit of a hard line to walk because we all have an opinion of our own and sometimes mine's a little different."

Boehlke is impressed with how much has been accomplished by the current council that is now halfway through its term.

"This council has done so many good things and is on the road to doing even more," says Boehlke.

Being the only incumbent re-elected in 2017, the balance of the council has had a steep learning curve.

"It's like drinking through a garden hose when you first start here. It's very complex and very diverse. So just to learn how things work and how they don't work is exciting."

Boehlke says current RVC initiatives include revising the county plan and land-use bylaw. On Oct. 22 meeting, RVC replaced a 40-year old recreation program. On the horizon is an update of its school division agreements.

Additionally, he says Chief Administrative Officer Al Hoggan is creating a more customer-friendly path for the county.

"We're in a very opportune position," he says. "Financially, we're very stable and enjoy day-to-day growth. Quite a few exciting things are coming to Rocky View County over the next few years."

At the same Oct. 22 organizational meeting, Division 4 councillor Al Schule was re-elected deputy reeve. Jerry Gautreau is chair of the council's governance and priorities committee and Kim McKylor is vice-chair. Councillors were also named to six other county committees and two external committees.
