For the second year in a row, Mr Mikes SteakhouseCasual is helping to light up Christmas for women and youth in the Cochrane area.

The 'Giving Tree' has been decorated with Christmas wishes from Big Hill Haven and the BGC (Boys and Girls Club) of Cochrane and Area. Starting today, those wishing to brighten up Christmas for those in need can stop by to pick a card off the tree and fulfill a Christmas Wish.

Tags on the decorated tree in the front lobby range from wishes for Christmas gifts for teenagers to gift card requests for Big Hill Haven clients.

"This is our way of building Christmas spirit,” says Brad Trent, general manager of the popular eatery. “Come to Mr Mikes SteakhouseCasual and make a teen’s Christmas Wish come true or make a Christmas better for someone dealing with domestic violence."

In exchange, the family-friendly casual diner, located at 50 Quarry St W., gives the givers a gift certificate to thank them for their Christmas generosity.

"Cochrane is such a giving community, and it's an honour to be able to have our tree at Mr Mikes," says Debbie Leah, Big Hill Haven board member. "It's a great partnership that we truly appreciate."

Last year, nearly $1,000 in groceries, gas, and gift certificates were provided for women and families assisted by the Big Hill Haven.

“Thanks to Mr Mikes SteakhouseCasual and the generosity of the community, the Giving Tree will help make the holiday season extra special for BGC teens,” says Jill Bilodeau, executive director of BGC Cochrane & Area. “Thank you to everyone who donates.”

The two organizations will be collecting the gifts on Dec. 21 to pass on to the women, teens, and children that they support so that the gifts will be ready for Christmas. The Giving Tree will remain up until Dec. 31, and donations will be accepted until then.
