Six girls from U14 Cochrane Wolfpack represented Zone 2 at the Alberta Summer Games.

The girls put up an incredible fight in the four games they played, but unfortunately lost in the bronze medal game.

Coach John Castrillon says the girls did fantastic competing against some big odds.

"We stood up to the big zones. We never expected to compete against Calgary or Edmonton that way. Usually small zones don't have many players to choose from, and when you face Calgary or Edmonton they are big teams. They usually have 150 -200 players who come to try outs and we only have like 40 players. That is the difference between Calgary and Edmonton they have big Tier One Players."

The expectations were high but the girls played extremely hard and were well disciplined. In the end Castrillon shares sometimes it just comes down to luck.

"The girls played great we tied 3-3 and went to a penalty shot, but we lost on the penalty shot but the performance over the weekend was very good. The girls were great, I am very happy with the results. Winning, yes people want to win. For me winning is just a sequence of effects, sometimes you just win because you are lucky not because you are the best."

Castrillon says he was happy that all the girls had equal opportunity to play.

"All our players played equal time, everyone of the players, no one sat on the bench because we had to win. Everybody played from number 1 to number 16."

Castrillon states the only thing he would change is being able to offer two age groups a chance to both compete. With the games only occurring every two years one group is left out.

"It is a lovely experience so I think every kid should be able to participate, two groups instead of just the U13s the U14s should be able to go."

The experience in Castrillon's eyes was invaluable, not only for the opportunity to play against some amazing players but the whole experience attending the games gave the girls.

"It is a great experience, it is so good for the kids, especially for the zones that are more rural."
