The first set of rankings has just come out for Alberta junior 'B' hockey teams in the province and bodes well for the Cochrane Generals.

The Gens are ranked as the top team in the Heritage Junior Hockey League, which should come as no surprise.

Taking it a step further, they are ranked seventh among every junior 'B' club in the province's five leagues.

The chart is prepared by veteran broadcaster Mark Berry. It's the first he's prepared in 20 months and takes into account all play up until Oct. 17.

The first order of business for the Gens is to attempt to raise the HJHL cup. Should they prove successful there, these rankings could hold valuable information on potential opponents in the spring. The winner of the HJHL will be invited to compete for the junior B hockey championship.

The Gens are on the road this weekend for a tough pair of games. They are looking for redemption against the Airdrie Techmation Thunder on Friday night, then head to Red Deer on Saturday to face the Vipers, who will be looking for a little payback of their own.

The Gens lost to the Thunder in a shootout in their first encounter of the season and soundly beat the Vipers last weekend, 7-2.
