UPDATE: Due to poor weather conditions, Friday's night game against the High River Flyers was cancelled. Today's game in Coaldale is expected to proceed.

The Cochrane Generals are looking to turn around a three-game losing streak tonight in High River.

Gens head coach Kurtis Jones says it's the first three-game losing streak of the team since he took over the reins in 2019, and remains confident the team will get back on track.

Jones says there have been plenty of pluses to take from each game, but overall, the team's play has been a bit soft.

"You've got to play 60 minutes," says Jones. "You can't play in 59 or 42, you've got to play the whole 60 minutes. The guys have to get on the same page as a group and work as a unit of five on the ice, and we just haven't been doing that the last three games."

Last Saturday, the Gens got off to a slow start against the Airdrie Techmation Thunder, falling behind 2-0 after the first 11 1/2 minutes of play. They bounced back to come within one but lost 4-2 after the Thunder scored an empty-netter late in the game.

With playoffs just a few weeks away, learning to rise above adversity can have a positive impact.

"Sometimes it's a learning experience, and hopefully it's going to benefit us going into playoffs. It looks like we're going to end up in third, we won't be getting a bye, but all-in-all, maybe that's going to help us. I have a lot of faith in the boys to turn it around. We're just in a little bit of a lull."

Saturday night the Gens head to Coaldale to play the Copperheads. They're back home to face the Okotoks Carstar Bisons on Feb. 4 for a special alumni night to celebrate the original Gens.  Then they wrap up their regular season home games against the Copperheads the next day.
