Sunday is Day Two of a food drive by Cochrane Fire Services to provide food hampers for veterans. It's being held at the entrance to Save-on-Foods during the afternoon and continues until Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Besides accepting food and cash donations, the firefighters were handing out reusable bags, information, and red and pink toy fire helmets for kids.

Firefighter Alex Vague says they've held veteran food drives in advance of Remembrance Day for many years, and have partnered with the Legacy Place Society for the last four.

He says the support received has been incredible.

"The amount of food that has been donated is pretty significant. Thanks to the generosity of the people of Cochrane, we filled a huge trailer full of food donations last year and there were many cash donations as well."

Legacy Place executive director Diane Festejo says they provide food hampers throughout the year, and the need typically escalates around Christmas.

The society was created in 1997 to provide empathetic and confidential support that builds resiliency individually and within first responder and military families.
