Just in time for the final weekend of August, a fire ban for the town of Cochrane will go into effect as of 4 p.m. Friday.

Fire Inspector, Jeff Avery says they use a ban as a last resort, but with the lack of rain and windy weather it is a necessity.

The fire ban indicates extreme fire danger.

No campfires, burning of wood products or charcoal briquettes allowed. Gas or propane stoves/bbqs and portable propane fire pits are allowed.

A fire ban for Rocky View County was issued last week and remains in effect.
