Everyone needs a friend that's all ears. And in this particular case, those ears are attached to a famous bunny who hops around. carrying a basket of goodies to bring joy to boys and girls.

The Easter Bunny is essential, says Mayor Jeff Genung.

He and town council have joined leaders around the globe in making it clear the Easter Bunny is an absolute must.

"I think that's a great message. The Easter bunny should be deemed an essential service and continue on with his, or her acts of kindness this weekend, and spread that Easter joy."

"That's something I think all young people and adults alike really value."

Traditionally, there are many Easter egg hunts held across town that have had to be shelved because of the pandemic.

Though it will be difficult on the Easter long weekend, he asks residents to practice two-metre physical distancing and following all other health directives.

He says he's also heard of one Cochrane neighborhood that is planning an innovative way to hold an Easter egg hunt in their community. They'll be placing coloured pictures of Easter eggs around the community so youth can enjoy the hunt while practicing physical distancing.
