In her update on Monday, Dr. Deena Hinshaw spoke to the importance of recognizing our seniors during Seniors Week.

She said, "Of course seniors week this year is difficult, we have to find ways to reach out to the seniors in our lives while maintaining physical distance. Both the COVID pandemic and our aggressive public health measures to limit spread of infection have been particularly hard on elderly Albertans. Individuals of this group are more vulnerable to severe outcomes from the virus. A hundred and thirty eight of the one hundred and forty three people in our province, who have died from COVID 19 have been aged sixty or older."

The numbers update for Monday were as follows:

  • 34 new cases in the past 24 hours
  • 400 active cases in the province
  • 53 people in hospital with 6 in ICU
  • over 2700 tests processed
  • 6501 people have recovered
  • no deaths reported in the past 24 hours

Dr Hinshaw again states "The new normal is not like the old, and we have to keep protecting each other and that is what will get us through this."
