With the COVID-19 vaccine rollout expanding on Monday, May 10 to include all Albertans 12 years of age and older, the uptake has been swift.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro tweeted Monday afternoon that by 2:30 p.m., over 112,000 Albertans had booked a COVID-19 immunization.

This is encouraging as the province continues to add new cases and hospitalizations are rising.

There were 1,597 new cases of COVID-19 in the province as of Monday with a positivity rate of 11.5 per cent.

There are 690 people in the hospital, an increase of 31 since Friday, May 7.

ICU cases rose by eight also since Friday for a total of 158.

Seven additional deaths were reported Monday bringing the total deaths in the province to 2,117.

Cochrane is reporting 217 active cases while Rocky View County is at 281 active COVID-19 cases.

To date, 318,841 or seven per cent of Albertans have been fully immunized and 35.7 per cent of the population has received at least one shot of COVID 19 vaccine.
