Health Minister Tyler Shandro announced today (Monday, January 4) that a health-care worker has passed away from COVID 19. He sent his condolences to the family and sighted the dedication and remarkable commitment from healthcare workers throughout the pandemic that has never wavered. 

“The tragedy of this loss will be felt across the system, and by those who were cared for by this individual and their co-workers. Their service will not be forgotten.”

In the past 24 hours, 1,128 new cases of COVID 19 were reported. There are 905 people in the hospital with 136 in ICU. There are now a total of 1,142 deaths in the province with over 90,000 people having recovered from the virus. Cochrane is reporting 50 active cases while Rocky View County is showing 89 active cases.

As of Sunday, 22,861 Albertans had received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
