Country music legend Loretta Lynn passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the age of 90.

According to her children, she passed away peacefully in her sleep at her beloved Hurricane Mills home in Tennessee.

Also known as the coal miner's daughter from her upbringing in Kentucky, Lynn launched into her long career of singing and songwriting in the 1960s.

Loretta and her husband Oliver (Mooney) Lynn started by getting a record contract with Decca Records. Lynn was a working mom as she had four children of her six children by the time she was performing at the Grand Ole Opry and on the road. She married her husband, whom she called Doo or Doolittle at the age of 15.

Her decades-long career was honoured in many ways including being the first woman to ever be named entertainer of the year by the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.

The movie "Coalminer's Daughter" starring Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones won Spacek an Academy Award for her portrayal of Lynn. It was based on Lynn's book she wrote in 1976.

Lynn was predeceased by her husband of 50 years in 1996.
