An individual from a  Kindergarten to Grade 4 school in Springbank has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a letter to parents yesterday, December 7, 2020, the Principal of  École Elbow Valley Elementary School, Brenden Trinca said that the school was notified of the positive case on Monday and the staff is working closely with Alberta Health Services (AHS) to ensure the necessary precautions are taken to protect students and staff.

For privacy reasons, it has not been specified whether the positive case is a student or a teacher at the school. A deep cleaning of the school took place yesterday and the school will remain open for in-school learning.

Any students and staff member, who would likely have had close contact with the individual who tested positive, has been provided additional information in a separate email about required isolation and will be contacted directly by AHS by email in the days ahead.

An additional letter has been released by AHS stating that if staff or students have not been identified as a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case but develop any of the symptoms listed on the daily screening tool, to take the necessary precautions and self-isolate at home.

Those individuals are strongly advised to call Health Link at 811 as soon as possible to arrange for COVID-19 testing.

AHS is also advising families with severe symptoms to call 911 and tell them that you or your child may have been in contact with COVID-19 so that they can make appropriate arrangements to care for you or your child safely.

École Elbow Valley Elementary School is reminding parents not to send students to school if they answer YES to any of the questions on the Alberta Health Daily Checklist
