Members from the Bow Valley Rugby Club represented Cochrane well at the Canadian Rugby Championships in Toronto, bringing home a silver, and two bronze medals.

U18 boys Branden Mangold, Rylen Waugh, Austin Dixon, Craig De La Mare and Brennnan Bourchier all played with the Prairie Wolfpack team at the championships, and nabbed a bronze medal for their efforts.

Bow Valley Rugby Club Director of Rugby Tyler Hawes says it was a good week for the U18 boys who went 2-2.

"They finished third, which is pretty good, it was a little disappointing that we lost our last game by one point which would have given us silver," he says. "They lost to B.C. in the first game, won the next two against Eastern Canada, and Quebec, and lost the final game to Ontario 17-16."

The lone Cochrane girl on the trip, AJ Mears managed bronze as well with the U16 Alberta team.

The U16 boys, Oscar Holbrough, and Isaiah Springer brought home silver representing Alberta, losing the gold medal game against B.C.

Hawes says although it wasn't gold, the trip out east involved a lot more than just medals.

"Some of these guys haven't played a whole lot of rugby, so to be able to travel and see what it's all about , see where it can take them, see that higher level, I think its just massive for them. Time will tell if they stick with the game or not."

He adds the players have a great shot at heading to championships again next year if they stick with it.
