The brand "It's the Feeling" created by the Cochrane Tourism Association has been recognized nationally as one of the best of the best at the 2019 Marketing Canada Awards.

The Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) recognized Cochrane Tourism for the branding it created after extensive consultation with stakeholders and the community. It all started by gathering feedback from the community in 2018.

"What people of Cochrane told us was that we're genuine, that we are welcoming, that we are inspiring and that it was about this feeling that people talk about," explains Jo-Anne Oucharek, executive director of Cochrane Tourism. "When they come to Cochrane they can't explain it, but "It's the feeling."

The slogan is just the tip of the iceberg. In the background are detail guidelines and strategies.

Six other entries were received from British Columbia, New Brunswick, Alberta and Quebec in the branding identity category that is divided into three expenditure divisions. Also recognized were the City of Lethbridge and the Brooks Region.

The branding judges took into account the creative, memorable, meaningful and consistent application of brand identity.

It has been another hectic year for Cochrane Tourism.

In May, they partnered in launching a Mystery Town app. "The Reel Cochrane" challenges participants to follow a series of clues that take them to businesses and points of interest in the Historic Downtown and Quarry to unlock the secret.

In June, they worked with several partners to create Explore Cochrane, designed to give residents an opportunity to enjoys activities in their own backyard.

Cochrane Tourism found success regionally and internationally in its stepped-up marketing.

"We told stories every week about either a Cochrane business, Cochrane event or a Cochrane tour operator or organization to tell the world who we are and what we have that is unique and different."

They have held several workshops with businesses and continue to develop further partnerships to nurture the industry.

"People come for activities but what they want to do is experience things, and we have some pretty special experiences."

Currently, they are working to create a new experience based on our Western culture with the Stockmen's Memorial Foundation.

Cochrane Economic Development Manager Mike Korman accepted the award on behalf of the association during the EDAC's 51st annual conference hosted in Edmonton.
