Cochrane's pop singer Lexi Strate has been nominated for a string of awards at the YYC Music Awards.

Nominees were released at the end of August and Strate is up for three awards including Female Artist of the Year, Pop Artist of the Year, and Video of the Year.

23 year old Strate says she was pleasantly surprised at her nomination.

"It was quite unexpected; I didn't even know they were doing the YYC Music Awards this year so I feel pretty lucky to be getting the recognition, so it's really exciting for me."

Strate knows a few of the other nominees alongside her, and says some of the nominees she is personally a fan of.

"I do know a few, obviously, Jocelyn Alice I am a big fan of hers' so that is pretty cool; but in all the categories I am in she is also in. I know Windigo I have actually performed a show with them so it feels pretty awesome just to be in the categories with all of them."

The YYC Music Awards will be held at Studio Bell on September .

The young star is not only gaining recognition on a local level but is being recognized as a top artist in Western Canada.

Strate has also been nominated for the 2016 Western Canadian Music and Industry Awards as Pop Artist of the Year. Besides the nomination, Strate will wow the crowds with a live performance on October 13, at the Regina award show.
