The Cochrane Golf Club’s Pet-Friendly Initiative proved to be extremely popular this year. The initiative let golfers bring their dogs to the course to act as their caddies for a five-dollar fee or a $50 unlimited pass. All the money raised was collected to be donated to the Cochrane & Area Humane Society.

About 150 golfers brought their four-legged best friends this season and today, the shelter was presented with a $3000 cheque. The additional funds were topped up by the Cochrane Golf Club.

“Why do this? Essentially, I'm a dog lover. I love dogs and I've owned dogs up until the last couple of years all my life.” Explains Brad Walz with Cochrane Golf Course. “It was just kind of a fun thing to do. Lots of community chatter. People just love coming up with their animals.”

“I do believe there are maybe half a dozen golf courses in Canada that are pet-friendly, but they do have restrictions when they can come. I think we're rather exclusive as far as not having any restrictions in place for pet-friendly. golfers are allowed to bring them any day of the week, anytime a day.”

The donated funds will go a long way in providing care to close to 2000 homeless pets that come through the Humane Society’s doors. The money goes towards providing food, shelter, medical care, behavioral rehabilitation, socialization, surgery treatments for injuries, and more.

The Cochrane Golf Club’s Pet-Friendly Initiative continues to grow and plans to return for the 2022 season.
