Cochrane Fire Services were thrilled to drop off four truck loads of donations to the Veteran's Food Bank.

Jeff Avery, Fire Prevention Officer, says they received more than just food donations.

"We raised about $1000 that we brought groceries for as well, and then we had another $1200 in cheques made out to the Veteran's fund itself. We did extremely well, so I thank the residents of Cochrane for their support."

Avery, says although it is close to Christmas and times are tough for many; Cochranites are always willing to give.

"When we put that bin outside I thought maybe we would empty it once a day, once every couple days, but there were times when we were emptying it five times a day. It seemed like some days there was just a steady stream in here of people dropping off cheques, cash, and groceries. It was amazing to see that."

As we move toward the holidays, Avery imagines that Cochranites will continue to dig deep, supporting community members in time of need.

"Cochrane people are always very good at donating stuff. I know some people that are out of work right now but it just seems that even though they are down on their luck they still have a couple bucks to give to charity and give to families that are even less fortunate than them."

Cochrane Fire Services will also be adopting a family this Christmas season.

"It is an amazing thing to see when everyone steps up at Christmas time."
