The Cochrane and Area Humane Society is very pleased to be able to hold their Fall Book Sale fundraising event this weekend Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Rehabilitation and Education Building behind the shelter.

Like everything else, their Spring Book Sale had to be postponed due to COVID 19. Lisa Kedian, Communications Coordinator says, "We had to cancel our Spring Book Sale which was unfortunate because those proceeds go directly to the shelter and we do rely on them. So, we are very happy that we are able to have this one. It is going to look a little bit different of course because, we will have safety precautions in place; social distancing, and we are also asking people to have masks when they visit the building."

Kedian says that they are so grateful to Cochrane and area residents for their support of the humane society. That is not to say that 2020 hasn't been a difficult year for the CAAHS. "We definitely have had our struggles this year, because a lot of our events and programming had to be canceled or postponed. Luckily, we have had so much support from Cochrane and surrounding communities so we are always grateful for that. People have been very generous with donations."

Being able to hold the Fall Book Sale will help with operating the shelter. Kedian says, "We have a fairly large facility here and we have a lot of animals coming in and out and just because COVID happened doesn't mean our animals in the shelter still don't need to be cared for or fed."

One good thing that has come our of the pandemic is the increase of dog adoptions. With more people at home and having the time to spend with a furry friend has been beneficial to dogs finding a new home. Kedian says they do have quite a few cats looking for forever homes and you are invited to look on the website to have one steal your heart. Also, on the website you can access the shelter's wishlist and volunteer opportunities. Click here.

So, mark this Saturday and Sunday on your calendar to go purchase some good reads for the upcoming winter and help support the Cochran and Area Humane Society.
