The Cochrane Chaos starts their run for a shot at the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League (AJFHL) title on Friday night.

The Chaos is hosting the Lethbridge Eagles in the first game of their south division semi-finals in Totem One. It's a best-of-three series that returns here Sunday if necessary.

In the regular season, the Cochrane team finished second in the south behind the Calgary Titans. The Titans have had the number of the Chaos all season, winning all but one game. The other ended in a tie.

It was no different in the last game of the regular season when the Titans won 7-3. Chaos head coach Derek Loomer says the game was closer than the score indicates.

"We did a lot of really good things, they just got a couple of breaks and we didn't, and it just snowballed from there."

The Chaos have won all their games against the Eagles this season, but playoffs are a brand new season, and anything could happen.

"Heading into the playoffs you want to be playing at your best. We have to be prepared because anything could happen. You have to be mentally prepared to stick to your game plan no matter what's happening on the ice, and trust in each other, and trust in yourself. If we play our best, we should be able to come out on top in that series."

If they win the series, there's a good chance they'll be facing the Titans in the south finals.

"As we've seen by our contests with the Titans this year, if they get through and we get through, it's going to be a real battle."

The Chaos are the reigning south division champions and want another crack at the north division finalist to claim the league championship.

Friday's game time is 7:45 p.m.
