Redwood Meadows is well known for holding a spectacular decorated bike parade to celebrate Canada Day, but there's so much more the community enjoys in their flagship celebration.

"We're so excited," says Kim Snow, a board member of the Redwood Meadows Community Association who is organizing the celebration. "We have our bike parade going, we have face painters, food, and beer gardens, and in the evening we have a family dance and fireworks. I think it's going to be an awesome day."

There's also live entertainment throughout the afternoon at Curtis Park, cake cutting at 2 p.m., bouncy castles for the kids, and the crew at Redwood Meadows Emergency Services is setting up a giant slip and slide.

A 16-year resident, Snow says the bike parade is something the community has enjoyed as long as she's lived there.

"The kids just absolutely love it because it's led by our emergency services. They bring out the fire trucks, run the sirens and the kids come and decorate their bikes then ride throughout the community. It's fun to watch."

The community association provides all the decorations for the bikes.

The family dance is a new addition, and runs from 7 to 10 p.m. and will be followed by a sensational fireworks display we've all come to expect on Canada Day.

"It will be nice to finally reconnect with community members you haven't seen for a while and mingle, and our family dance will be really fun."

The celebration draws people from the area, especially nearby Bragg Creek.

"Redwood Meadows and Bragg Creek are such close communities, so any community activities that we throw, Brag Creekers are always invited to join. Really, we're open to anyone who wants to come out and celebrate with us."

Like here in Cochrane, they've faced the challenge of recruiting volunteers, and some of the activities planned have been cancelled for various reasons, but they won't let that dampen the celebration of our nation's birthday.
