Everyone is invited to watch some exciting basketball action while supporting a worthy cause.

After a hiatus due to the pandemic, the popular Hoops for a Cure fundraiser is a go and it is happening this Thursday, February 9 at Cochrane High School. All the funds raised will go to kids' cancer care research.

Students at Cochrane High are very pleased to be hosting the event which will take place ahead of the 6 p.m. tip-off between the Cochrane Cobras Jr. Varsity girls and Croxford. The Cobras Sr. Varsity girl's game against Croxford will follow at 7:45 p.m.

Senior students Caitlyn Rost and Brooklyn Aveckenstedt are busy helping to organize the event and Brooklyn will be playing as well.

Funds will be raised by collecting a donation for entry to the game which will also provide an opportunity to win items raffled off during the evening.

Rost says, "This has happened in previous years, but it was put on pause due to COVID so we wanted to bring back that tradition and keep it alive and get everyone from surrounding communities to gather for an evening and show their support. The reason we are doing this is that everyone is affected by cancer in some way and we encourage as many people in the community to come out and support the cause."

Student organizers have alerted the Croxford coaches and team members about the event and are hoping to have a big turnout from everyone with the goal of packing the gym on Thursday for Hoops for a Cure.
