To no one’s surprised, the 2020 Hlinka Gretzky Cup has been cancelled.

The U18 men’s international tournament was to be hosted Aug. 3-8 in Edmonton and Red Deer.

Hockey Canada's chief executive officer Tom Renney and president Scott Smith say it was a tough decision, but the right one.

The province has also cancelled all summer events and festivals.

To this point, no Canadian player selection camps had not been held or final roster established.

The tournament will next be hosted by the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 2021, then return to Alberta in 2022.

Those who have purchased tickets will be directly contacted by May 15, regarding options, including a full refund.

Several Cochrane area players have been part of Canada’s entry that normally medals.

Most recent players include Bragg Creek’s Dylan Holloway and Cochrane's Dillon Dube.
