The Cochrane Generals remain in the number one position, after a hat-trick of wins over the weekend.

The Gens were victorious in all three games this past weekend, placing them 8 points ahead of second place rivals, the Coaldale Copperheads.

Dan Gendur, Cochrane Generals, Head Coach, says Friday's 6-5 win over Coaldale came down to some great goal tending,

"I don't think we actually played our best game of the year but we plotted some timely goals and our goaltender Ryan Simpson was excellent in the game and stole the game for us."

Gendur says the team doesn't take wins for granted.

"We always take it game by game, our goal obviously is to try and win every single game but we've instilled work ethic among other things to ensure we have our best efforts out every game."

The Generals winning streak over the weekend continued, beating the Medicine Hat Cubs 10-3 and the Okotoks Bison 7-3.

Gendur says looking at the current standings, the future is looking mighty fine.

"We are actually fairly close to clinching a playoff spot here, which is kind of crazy to say because it will be half way through the year on Saturday (November 12) against Airdrie. We want to play every single game like they matter and have our best game every time we step out on the ice in preparation for play offs among other things."

The Gens next opportunity will come Saturday, November 12, 7:30 pm against the Airdrie Techmation Thunder at SLSFSC.
