Cochrane RCMP are seeking the public's assistance for an investigation into a break and enter that occured some time between Aug. 8 and Aug. 10 at a rural residence on Grand Valley Road.

On Aug. 10 the home owners returned from being away, and found the house ransacked, Cochrane RCMP Constable Jennifer Brewer says a large amount of jewellery was taken from the residence.

"The homeowners found that approximately $1 million worth of their jewellery had been stolen," she says. "Which included some very unique jewellery, some with the brand that they use on the ranch that they run."

RCMP say the residence was very secure, and well off the road, with only one way in and out of the property.

There were no signs of forced entry, the doors were still locked, a window was found to have been opened in order to gain access, but it also did not show signs of forced entry.

The RCMP's Forensice Identification Service is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Police are asking the public for help in trying to locate the jewellery, any information on the file, or any tips.

If you have any information on this investigation call the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
